more about myself

hi there! my name is alicia and my mind is often all over the place!

i’m an overthinker, a maker, a writer, a photographer, a cry baby, a fearful person, an experimental person, all of the above. but within everything that i experience myself to be, i like to remember all of it and let it all out in my art – writing, documenting through photography, performance and find myself also in other mediums: sound, video and drawing. i research embodied knowledge and seek to embrace our bodily experiences as information we can use to understand ourselves and people around us more. healing and care, as well as confronting discomfort are a core element of what my work encompasses.

in short words i would describe my practice as a tacticle photographer and with a pleasure activist approach (manifesting the words of adrienne marie brown eeep!).

i was born in germany and moved to the netherlands in 2020 to complete a bachelor of photography at the willem de kooning academy. last year i lived in vancouver, canada (territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlil̓wətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples), for several months following an exchange program at the emily carr university of art and design in which i expanded my multi media practice.

currently i am based in rotterdam, the netherlands, but am seeking new surroundings and am travelling in 2025 inside of a van. from there i’ll be making things from a different point of view, and aiming to live simpler.

currently i am working on a project inside of the Kunstpodium T master/apprenticeship. Our exhibition is set to be in april 2025.

currently on my mind is audre lorde’s quote on “self care”, a term used lightly and often these days – but i am noticing the importance of rewriting what this term actually means and how links to activism.
